Tinnitus Evaluation

Tinnitus, a condition where people hear constant sounds like ringing or buzzing, is more common than people realize. In the United States alone, nearly 30 million people are dealing with some form of the condition. While the source of the sound appears to be a sensorineural issue, the cause and cure for tinnitus is frustratingly elusive and unclear.

Something as simple as a piece of earwax blocking the ear canal can cause tinnitus, or it can also be the result of a number of health conditions, such as:

  • Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL)
  • Ear and sinus infections
  • Medication side-effects
  • Allergies
  • Neck or jaw issues
  • Diseases of the heart or blood vessels
  • Meniere’s disease
  • Brain tumors
  • Hormonal changes in women
  • Thyroid abnormalities

We understand how difficult it can be to live with tinnitus day in and day out, as our own co-owner and operator, Mike, has dealt with the condition himself. Fortunately, the treatment options for people suffering from tinnitus have progressed in leaps and bounds in recent years and relief is possible! At Erichson Hearing Aid Center, we use an advanced sound therapy program designed by Oticon. This program helps retrain the brain’s recognition of the offending sounds and effectively makes them fade away. Mike used this program with great success and no longer suffers from the annoying and sleep-depriving effects that tinnitus can have.
